Supporting Older Adults During the COVID-19 Situation

Older adults are identified as one of the most at-risk populations for the COVID-19 virus. As leaders in the aging network, our agencies are committed to supporting older adults and their caregivers and recognize the added stress of our current times on homebound older adults. Until further notice, the following services will be available in Grand Traverse County:

Grand Traverse County Commission on Aging and Senior Center Network
  • Friendly reassurance and well-check calls to anyone over 60 years of age who would benefit.
  • Grocery and medication delivery for homebound older adults.
  • Taped exercise and entertainment classes to be aired on Channel 189 beginning Week of March 23.
  • Information about community resources including food and financial assistance.
  • In-home assistance for personal care needs like bathing, dressing and other activities of daily life.
  • Medication management
Area Agency on Aging of Northwest Michigan
  • Information about community resources including food and financial assistance.
  • Crisis problem solving for complex aging needs, developing emergency plans for long term care needs, identifying resources for crisis situations of older adults and caregivers.
  • Information and problem solving to support caregivers to limit burnout and exhaustion.
  • Support to in-home direct care agencies providing care to home-bound older adults.
  • Other services in development – to be announced.
